The Ballad of Cryptkeeper, Part 5

(Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4)

Following the breakup of Cryptkeeper, Brian Morningstar found himself at a crossroads. One one hand, it would be fairly easy to start another band. On the other, he could concentrate on making films.

His decision incorporated elements of both of these things and more.

Cryptkeeper's albums were released on Brian's own DIY label, Lightbringer Records (Lightbringer being a play on the fact that Morningstar is one name given to Lucifer, who is also called the lightbringer). Using the money he had saved up during his time in Cryptkeeper, and with the help of a few investors (of varying types), he founded Lightbringer Studios.

Early on, LBS concentrated on low-budget grindhouse-style films, setting themselves up as a friendly rival to Troma Films, and producing and releasing albums by local Autumn Bay bands.

Over the years, the company's portfolio has diversified to include comics (under the direction of Jeff Morningstar), books, higher budget films, and more.

Brian has a reputation for "making it work" with whatever is available. This is largely responsible for his success, as well as the cult popularity of Lightbringer Films. (Case in point, there are certain props that show up in multiple films, which has led to drinking games as well as the decision to reuse props, especially as Easter eggs.)

In recent years, Felicia Kingsley, an investigative journalist for the Autumn Bay Herald, has been negotiating with Brian. For her part, she is looking for whatever information she can get pertaining to the death of Jerry Winter (she's writing a book). For Brian's part, he has gotten information from Felicia about her friend Sam Christianos's version of the life and times of his (fairly infamous in certain circles) friends, Eric Macdonald and Tona Zehm.

Rumor has it that Brian has had offers from larger companies (that, depending on the source of the rumor, tend to rhyme with "Biz-knee" and "Flugel"), and has turned them down...

...and so the story makes the connection to present day Autumn Bay. (Plus some crossover shenanigans!)

The crossover shenanigans are a later addition, of course, which came around through discussions when Felicia made her way into Let It Ride...
